Savoring the Islands

Agro-Industrial Innovation & Utilization of Tropical Superfoods

24–29 August 2026 | Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

FATEPA Short Course Program 2026 is a 6-day international summer course organized by the Faculty of Food Technology and Agroindustry (FATEPA), Universitas Mataram. Carrying the theme “Savoring the Islands: Agro-Industrial Innovation & Utilization of Tropical Superfoods,” this program introduces students to tropical superfoods, sustainable agroindustry, product innovation, and community-based learning in Lombok.

The program is open for undergraduate, master, and doctoral students from Food Technology, Agriculture, Agroindustry, Business, Environmental Science, and other related fields.

Program Highlights

  • Academic lectures on tropical superfoods and sustainable agroindustry
  • Laboratory practice: extraction, fermentation, processing, and product development

The short course will focus on selected tropical commodities with strong potential for agro-industrial innovation:

  • Kakao / Cocoa
  • Mete / Cashew
  • Rumput Laut / Seaweed

Participants will explore the journey from island resources to innovative products through the following stages:

Laboratory Activities

Tempe Making Process

Participants will learn the basic process of tempe production, including:

  • Soybean preparation
  • Inoculation
  • Fermentation
  • Tempe product development

Celorot Process

Participants will also be introduced to local food processing through celorot production, including:

  • Batter preparation
  • Leaf cone preparation
  • Frying
  • Celorot product development

Program Outputs

By joining this program, participants are expected to receive and produce:

  • Certificate of participation

  • Product concept or prototype
  • Pitch deck presentation
